Coastal Guardians
|
For someone who does not spend much time on the beach, I seem to be inspired with each early morning or late afternoon I choose to stop by. Other paintings have featured the sky or water, but for Coastal Guardians, I chose the sand dunes again. The undulating characteristics of the landscape appeal to my visual sensibilities. I imagine a treasure beyond each dune and the forms seldom disappoint. The wind or water lines leave patterns and motifs that are so rhythmic I can almost hear the music created by them. I was attracted by these particular dunes and vegetation because of white objects that I thought were flags and I wondered why anyone would put flags in the dunes? On closer examination, I discovered white morning glory-like flowers at regular intervals growing along the ground covering. Here was my treasure for which I was searching! I think these plants are Ipomaea imperati or White Morning Glory and provide protection for the fragile beach ecosystem. If you look closely in my painting, you might discover a suggestion of the flowers....I did not want to overdo the details anymore than I had already. As always, I ask for comments and thoughts and welcome each. Last week I changed my painting title from Morning Stroll to Reflective Morning because a reader wanted the people to be bigger. I thought, "but the painting isn't about the people"! My title made the painting about the people, but my intent was the light and reflections and maybe a reflective walk. Titles are important and so are viewer observations! Thanks for yours. |
