Readjustment

Summer Storm
Life is full of readjustments as we have all experienced this past year. I'm no exception and for that reason, my blog post have been nonexistent for several months. I think I'm back to the studio and my art and hope to be more consistent with my painting and my life.
Summer Storm, an 24" x 36" oil on linen, is an example of some of my reworking or readjusting. If a painting hangs in an area that I can view it for an extended period of time, I see it more clearly and with less emotional attachment. It is no longer precious and I can feel more objective about it's qualities. While I liked the subject and composition, I began to think it needed more contrast and therefore, went to work adjusting. I lightened the marsh, darkened the rain and some of the clouds, softened some edges, added some additional color, and lightened the trees in a few places. I feel these adjustments improved the story I was trying to convey and made the painting have more visual appeal.
I've removed the original painting from my website so a comparison is not possible, but I would appreciate comments from viewers concerning their thoughts about this painting. Honesty is always welcome.
